Celebrating the Backbone of Our Work: Our Home-Based Worker

In all the work we do—whether we’re tackling waste management, promoting sustainable production, or driving community development—there's one constant, crucial partner: the home-based worker.

They are the engine behind our projects, the hands that turn ideas into reality, and the foundation upon which we build all our initiatives. We don't just "work with" home-based workers; we formulate all our work around them. Their needs, their expertise, and their potential are the starting points for every strategy we devise.

Empowering Skilled Artisans in Kulhudhuffushi

We are particularly thrilled to acknowledge the many skilled workers on Kulhudhuffushi City who contribute so much to their community, often working right from their homes. Their traditional skills and local knowledge are invaluable!

Through the capacity building component of our SACEP PLEASE project, we've been able to empower these individuals, giving them the tools and training to enhance their craft, increase their income, and connect to wider markets. This empowerment is central to achieving lasting, sustainable development.

Honoring our SACEP Project Partnership fund recipient

This year, we want to give a special and heartfelt acknowledgment to the incredible home-based workers who were key partners in our SACEP (South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme) project. The dedication, ingenuity, and sheer effort you invested were instrumental in achieving our shared goals. You didn't just complete tasks; you brought a sense of ownership and community spirit to the entire project.

We especially want to celebrate the over 100 participants who took part in our skill-development trainings, including:

●      Those who mastered new techniques in our cloth-making trainings.

●      The participants who learned to create waste-sort bags—a critical component of our waste management efforts.

●      The skilled artisans who participated in the bag and shoe fixing workshops, extending the life of valuable items and promoting circularity.

Shimla’s Inspiring Vision-REHOME

Among these remarkable partners, we want to shine a light on Shimla, one of our recent partnership recipients. Shimla didn't just meet the project's requirements; she took the principles of community and sustainability and ran with them.

We are so proud to celebrate the opening of her new thrift shop-Rehome!

This isn't just a place to buy and sell second-hand goods; it's a welcoming community space built by and for home-based workers. It's a hub where Shimla and many others like her can:

●      Come together to share skills, ideas, and support.

●      Display and sell their home cooked short eats, crafts, providing a vital market link.

●      Build a stronger network of artisans and producers.

Shimla’s thrift shop is a powerful example of what’s possible when we center our work on empowering individuals. It shows that an investment in one person can create ripples of opportunity for an entire community.

To all the home-based workers who partnered with us on the SACEP PLEASE project and beyond: Thank you. Your commitment is our greatest asset, and we look forward to continuing to build innovative, impactful projects centered around you
